Ugly carpet is an extreme eyesore for any room. Though a lot of creativity is needed, there are ways to make your room look fabulous in spite of the eyesore. One way to do this is to cover the majority of the carpet with an area rug. Try to choose a rug that blends well with the decor in the room. Your area rug should not be the same color as the ugly rug. If you do not have room in the budget for an area rug, try repositioning the furniture in the room. If at all possible, cover any stains or damaged areas with the furniture. Make sure your furniture is positioned in a way that looks natural to the room. Do not place the sofa in the middle of the room to cover a stain. Window treatments are also a great way to spice up a room with ugly carpet. Curtains or drapes should pick up other colors in the room except for the floor color. You don’t want to look at the window and be reminded of carpet! The best advice is to use your imagination and accentuate the parts of the room that look the best.

How Big is Too Big for Artwork? Well that is the million dollar question. First off one needs to decide the size of the room and that is quickly followed up with what is the theme. It’s seems that we have all become major consumers and this has resulted in having TOO MUCH STUFF! This is a direct correlation with how much “stuff” we put on our walls. Even the fashion conscious have become utilizer maniacs. Try to remember the last house you entered and the feelings that were evoked upon crossing the threshold. Did you feel like you were being swallowed whole by the over sized furniture and dark color scheme with variations of African art combined with country flare. The modern motife is over done to say the least. Minimalism though shirked off as the inability to decorate has its perks. If the idea is to tie the piece in with the furniture then make sure it is average sized and the color scheme matches well. If the artwork is the centerpiece it is still wise not to over do. Keep the furniture at a minimal. Overstimulation should not be the goal, enhancement should. Keep it simple people!

Throw pillows are very elegant and decorative but there can often be an issue of bacteria. Similar to stuffed animals pillows are touched by peoples hands and come in contact with saliva and bodily fluids. To maintain your throw pillows you will want to wash then on a regular basis, and spray them with a bacterial cleanser. When the pillow become torn or tattered you will want to throw them away. This will prevent bacteria and bugs from crawling inside of the pillows, growing and or laying eggs. You will also want to spray or throw away your pillows if they have been in contact with a person who has had a severe illness.

Every few years you will more than likely change the decor of your living room or bedroom. This is a great time to get rid of your old throw pillows and the germs that they are carrying and to get something new. Try to get water resistant materials that are more conducive to coming in contact with people, and also that are more likely not to tear. If your pillows are looking a little shabby toss them and get some new ones for the health of your home occupants.
