Instructions

This section describes how to apply the Better Than Paint adhesive film. You can also find these instructions on the back of all product packages.

(In the instructions below, "BTP" refers to the Better Than Paint Adhesive Film.)

For a Designated Area

Wash hands before starting. Prep the area to receive the BTP applique with alcohol or other cleaning agent intended for that surface (body oils, lotions and soil can affect the adhesion.)

Cut a shape larger than the surface to be applied.

Peel off the backing using the extra area at the edges to grasp the film (use the edges to be cut away).

Center the film sheet in the center of the area to be colorized.

Lightly press the film to secure but not firm until you are sure of the location (once firmly applied, BTP cannot be reused).

Firmly press BTP, with your fingers, from the center outwards towards the edges.

If there is a trim part or dimensional molding to act as a border, burnish the applique to the edge and beyond with a burnishing tool or similar type instrument.

Trim with an X-acto or other type modelers knife.

Use the back of the blade of the knife to press the film into cuts and voids.

For a Specific Shape

Wash hands before starting. Prep the area to receive the applique with alcohol or other cleaning agent intended for that surface (body oils, lotions and soil can affect the adhesion.)

Make sure the BTP film is flat and free of distortions and wrinkles.

Lightly cut the shape desired. Be sure to not cut through the backing film (it may be best to shape the desired design on tracing paper or simple white typing paper. Cut the desired shape. Use this as a template and simply flip the cut out over for the reverse side application.)

Peel away the areas you don't want. (If there are any voids or holes in your design, pick them out with your knife at this stage.)

At this stage, you should have the intact shape with the fringe beyond the shape peeled away, showing only the backing paper.

Remove the shape from the backing with the use of the knife.

Carefully place the graphic on the surface but do not press it into the surface before you are sure of the placement. (Once the graphic is placed it may be difficult to remove and re-apply without causing deformities in the shape and the design.)

Press the applique from one side to the other. (It is easier to manager the thinner parts of your design, so start with the larger side and press towards the thinner side.)

For Striping

Follow the above procedures for care and handling.

Use a clear straight edge and cut the desired thickness or stripe. Be sure to cut extra length for handling! (A clear ruler can help see the protected area under the tool.)

Peel away the stripe holding the extra length and apply from one side to the other. (The thinner the BTP film is the more flexible and can be applied following complex curves and shapes.)

Use the back of the knife blade to press the film into cuts and voids for a complete, finished appearance.

Trim to fit.
